Outlook Express Setup

Horizon-Net is providing this information to assist our clients whom have decided to use Microsoft Outlook Express as their mail program. This DOES NOT mean that we endorse this product. In fact we only provide minimal telephone support for this product.

Although, at the time of this writing (May 2000) we have seen an improvement, our experience has been that the release of this product in December 1999 has been the source of 25-50% of our technical support issues. The program crashes and also appears to become corrupted easily. When this happens, the program that appears to be most affected is your dial-up networking. It seems that Outlook Express doesn't want you to stay on-line for more than a few minutes at a time. This generally doesn't please clients and tends to cause them to get mad at us. Please call Microsoft about this. Their number is 1(425) 635-7222. :^)

In the event that you do experience the disconnection problem, it could be caused by a wide variety of issues. If you are running Outlook Express and want to continue to do so, we have found that problems caused by Outlook Express can sometimes be resolved by checking your Network Settings in the Control Panel. Any changes to the Network Settings will cause the registry to clean up problems.

Outlook Express is also the most common way to have your system infected with viruses and re-transmitting viruses. Most viruses are transmitted as attached files or links to attached file. Due to serious security holes in the product, a virus can infect your system quite easily, discover you address book and retransmit the virus to all the addresses in your address book. There are ways to safeguard your system from these viruses. You can find more information about by clicking on the Security Link on our homepage.

Horizon-Net is not liable for any loss that you may experience as a result of using any type of Internet software. We will only assist you by providing you with information that we discover that you can use to protect your computer. As a result of the problems we have experienced with Outlook Express we do not recommend this product, nor do we support it.
